In this section, we are going to talk about which browser uses less RAM. That is why we have put together a list of the usual suspects so you know the most RAM-efficient browsers in 2023. Knowing which browsers use less RAM memory is vital if you want to improve your workflow or simply not to worry about your games lagging because your browser is too greedy for RAM space. User_pref("browser.display.7.7 What is a really fast browser in 2023? User_pref("image.animation_mode", "none") User_pref ("accessibility.typeaheadfind", false) User_pref("browser.blink_allowed", false) User_pref("network.prefetch-next", false) * Disable network prefetching/search engine suggest */ User_pref("_pages.expert_bad_cert", true) User_pref("browser.ssl_override_behavior", 2) Self-signed certificate handling is annoying // (This actually has a UI but it's buried.) Turn that annoying autocomplete popup REALLY off: User_pref("browser.backspace_action", 0) * Set backspace key to go to previous page */ User_pref("ui.allow_platform_file_picker", false) * Get rid of the ugly gtk file picker */ User_pref("", " user_pref(".enabled", "allAccess") User_pref("-persistent-connections-per-server", 8) User_pref("-persistent-connections-per-proxy", 16) User_pref("-connections-per-server", 16) * Speed Tweak - Fast Computer Fast Connection */ User_pref("plugin.expose_full_path", true) I'll also look a bit closer at other alternatives with regards to browsers.Ĭode: Select all /* Speed Tweak - Common to all Configurations */ After I made my first post and rebooted the computer I went out for a walk, and when coming back 3h30min later Firefox was up to a bit over 3Gb.Īnyway - Since this is something that happened just the other day, and since I haven't seen any updates come down for my add-ons that could possibly be the cause I think I'll begin with a reset of noscript, after which I will try to be a bit more "careful" with what I allow. In my simple way of thinking you load the page and it's content and that should be "it". What I don't understand though is how the memory usage of a page can continue growing like that. I did start looking at the individual pages I had loaded, and it seems like some of them were a bit more consuming than the others, something that I can accept since those pages have more content than the others. I do actually run noscript already, but I'm quite sure I'm not doing it as efficiently as I could (I should probably be a bit more specific when allowing/disallowing content). You can find a lot of howtos and tweaks in web (and here in the forum as well) to improve FF ( i never tried them, can't say if they work or not) just to give an example: i tried now with this site (it's good for this kind of tests because it's insanely heavy with flash) with noscript on and 6 tabs i was on 440MiB in FF and ~70MiB in plugin-container when the site loaded (still blocked) FF raised to ~550 and plugin-container to ~80 now it becomes interesting> when i whitelist the site, plugin-container goes to ~1.1GiB and FF to 700MiB src=search ( all that content will loaded only with your permission) what kind of sites are loaded in those 26 tabs (the plugin-container usage tells me that would be sites heavily dependent on flash and/or java) what extensions you have installed? is it possible that one of those is responsible for the memory increase (or part of it)? i remember (long time ago, when i used to have dozens of extensions in FF) one of them -a weather watcher- was behaving oddly and had a memory leak is possible that one of then is not properly coded or because of its nature increases the usage (if it's a extension that needs to access the net in a regular basis can have that side-effect) the memory handling is not FF strongest point (they say that with every new release this issue is better but it's still far from perfect, not in 9 and not yet in 10) 26 tabs is also already a heavy usage (not over the top though, i saw worst ) FF is not a light browser (but neither are nowadays chrome/ium or opera) but 6.8 GiB is really too much (it's the highest number i ever saw related with FF)
